Endorsement Process
We have endorsed the following candidates for the Oregon House
and Senate. We did not take a position on every race because we only endorse
candidates who seek our endorsement. Over the years, fewer and fewer candidates
will complete any candidate questionnaires because these surveys are increasingly
used by their opponents to embarrass them or misreprent their positions. For
that reason, Oregon Action does not make candidate responses to our survey
public.

The Candidate Survey
Candidates were asked questions about affordable housing, living
wages, health care, prescription drugs, immigrant rights, government
reform, civil rights and fair taxation. They were also asked what
they believe are the obligations
of the state government to serve the public good, how they define fairness
in tax policy and what their wish list of legislative priorities would
be if they did not have to limit their goals based on the budget crisis or
the balance of power in the legislature. Candidates positions had to agree
with the majority of our positions on the issues. We followed up with candidates
who left questions blank.
In endorsing Senator Ben Westlund in District 27, we based our endorsement
on the extensive work he did with us in 2003 as he was recovering from major
surgery at the time we were collecting the surveys.
