Our History

Developing Leaders
Oregon Action takes pride in developing outstanding leaders from communities who are traditionally left out of the decision making process, people who see themselves on the downside of power — low-income, women, youth, people of color, immigrants and those with felony backgrounds — building their skills to take direct action to improve their communities.

Organizing People
Oregon Action believes power rests in the hands of the people. We organize people to work together and exert their power to win progressive changes in the development of public policies that improves their lives & communities.

Promoting Progressive Values
Oregon Action believes all people have value. We have a shared responsibility to help each other to thrive. Government is best equipped to carry that mutual responsibility — when the people are organized and have the power to hold government accountable.

Our web site is designed to let you find out about the specific campaigns you are interested in as well as to make our research and publications available to you. We have made it easy for you to find out how to get more involved and hope you will take advantage of our e-mail updates to stay more informed.

Your Role in Oregon Action
Oregon Action is free to choose issues based on their importance to our members — not to funders — because  35% of our funding comes from our membership. This support gives us more freedom and flexibility to take on the issues that most impact the lives of our members.

Some members play a more active role: attending meetings and participating in actions and forums to advance our campaigns. Many of those decide to take advantage of our trainings and leadership programs to build their skills and become leaders of Oregon Action campaigns. How active you want to be is totally up to you.  We encourage you to sign up to be a member today. Your membership is an investment in our success!
