Health Care
Oregon Action believes all people deserve affordable quality health care when
they need it from a provider of their choice.
- Americans still spend more than any other people
for health care and over 750,000 Oregonians go without health insurance.
- Premiums continue to escalate
at double-digit rates; employers have reduced benefits and increased copays
for those lucky enough to have insurance.

Health Care is a Fundamental Right
Franklin Roosevelt enumerated health care as a fundamental economic right
in his Second Bill
of Rights. In his words, "The right to adequate medical
care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health" is a
fundamental right that the government must ensure.
Oregon Action has endorsed both Senate bills working to achieve universal coverage: SB 27 and SB 329. Senate Bill 329 is working to combine all health expenditures into a pool to provide an essential health care package. Senate Bill 27 grew out of the work of the Archimedes Movement whose goal is to engage engage Oregonians in dialogue that results in action to reform the health care system. Under this plan, Oregon will request federal waivers through state legislation to combine all public health care resources - Medicare, Medicaid and employer contributions - to provide a core package of benefits to all Oregonians.
