Oregon Action is a chapter-based statewide organization. Local chapters form the basis of our grassroots organizing and bring members into the organization through outreach campaigns. Members who wish to be more active usually get involved through volunteering at the local level.
Each local chapter has a Board of 8-15 local leaders. Local boards decide what issues their chapter will work on. Local boards elect 4 to 5 representatives to the State Board of Directors.
Rogue Valley Chapter

The Rogue Valley Chapter is currently working on affordable housing in general, and attempting to save the Upper and Lower Pines mobile home parks in particular. They also are working to pass a living wage ordinance in Medford and have done a lot of living wage education and outreach in Jackson and Josephine counties.
Rogue Valley OA is working locally to save affordable housing in Ashland. The Pines mobiile home park is threatened with closing and together with Peace House, RVOA is working to enable the Ashland Community Land Trust to purchase the park.
The Rogue Valley Chapter is also working on Living Wage issues with a big win when Ashland passed a living wage ordinance in 2001. They are now working to pass a similar ordinance in Medford through a local initiative campaign.
Portland Chapter

Portland, OR 97211

The Portland Chapter is most focused on the food stamps and prescription drug reform campaigns right now. In the past, the chapter has worked on increasing school funding for Portland Schools, utility restructuring and in alliance with Jobs With Justice, helped pass a Multnomah County Living Wage ordinance.
Portland Food Stamp committee members have become national leaders in welfare reform, going to DC to lobby for TANF reauthorization, restoration of immigrant benefits and increased funding for food stamps. They have even gone to other states to teach other welfare organizing committees how to develop a winning campaign.
Portland's Rx Reform Committee is leading the statewide campaign to pass a prescription drug purchasing bill to lower prescription drugs costs in Oregon.
